Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan belongs to what is called patiala gharana (gharana being a certain flavour/grammar of ragas in Indian classical music) He was born in Kasur, Punjab in 1901. Being a Muslim, he moved to Pakistan after India was partitioned in 1947 but then decided to relocate back to India. He is considered to be one of the greatest classical music singers. Some consider him the Tansen of the 20th century (Tansen was a 16th century Hindustani
